Friday Johan Feliu was arrested outside the BJ’s parking lot on Thursday after an employee at the Sunglass Hut store in the Garden State Mall reported a suspicious person in the store, Paramus Capt. Robert M. Guidetti said in a statement. The employee told police the person resembled a suspect who stole 22 pairs of sunglasses of assorted styles and brands on June 29, he said. Officer Paul Siemon and mall security guards chased Feliu, who ran across Route 17 to the BJ’s parking lot, where Feliu is alleged to have removed his shirt and pretended to work for the wholesale business pushing shopping carts, Guidetti said. Officers Mike Kelly and Marc Pinajian located Feliu in the parking lot. Feliu was charged with one count of theft, and bail was set at $5,000, with no 10 percent option. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail. Guidetti said borough detectives are also investigating more than $8,000 of sunglass thefts since last year from different stores in the mall. The thefts include a pair of Rayban sunglasses valued at $150, Louis Vuitton “Evidence” sunglasses priced at $725, and numerous pairs of Polo, Prada, and Versace valued at $7,780.
