DAYTON, Ohio July 4 2013 - An Ohio township has agreed to pay $100,000 to the family of a 17-year-old girl who was made to strip and then hosed down by a male deputy police chief last summer.
The Dayton Daily News reports that Miami Township, south of Dayton, settled the case June 25. In exchange, the girl's family agreed not to sue.
Police say the girl was pepper-sprayed during her arrest in July 2012 for fleeing an officer investigating a shoplifting complaint. She was allowed to strip naked and was hosed down at the station by Deputy Police Chief John DiPietro.
DiPietro was fired by township trustees for violating professional code, although he was not charged criminally.
The newspaper said both sides agreed not to comment on the settlement.
