RALEIGH, N.C. Feb 4 2013 -- An investigation has been launched into certain State Capitol Police administrative practices, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
As a result, Secretary Kieran Shanahan has placed Acting Chief Antonio Asion and Sgt. Benjamin Franklin on investigatory placement.
"I have serious concerns about certain practices involving secondary employment," Shanahan said. "We will conduct a thorough investigation and take action as deemed appropriate. So as not to compromise this ongoing investigation, nor publicly reveal personnel matters, the department will not provide additional details at this time."
Major William Gray, State Highway Patrol has been named acting chief of the State Capitol Police while the investigation is ongoing.
The primary mission of State Capitol Police is to provide a safe and secure environment for public officials, state employees and visitors within the North Carolina State Government Complex and at state-owned properties.
