The Anderson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at a car crash that resulted in a woman's death early Saturday morning on the Highway 28 bypass.
Captain Garland Major said the incident began with a fight outside Marvon's nightclub. Major said the club had hired a private security company and the armed security team was trying to get people to leave. Major said a security guard saw a vehicle coming toward him and that he felt threatened.
Major said the security guard then fired at the truck. Major said the truck then left the parking lot and traveled a short distance down Highway 28 Bypass before crashing into a parked car and a utility pole.
Major said rescue crews found India Cynthia Lomax, 21, of Anderson, dead on the scene of the crash. Major said Lomax had been shot in the torso. A passenger, identified as Willis Reginald Donald, 33, was also found with a gunshot wound the arm, Major said.
A few hours after the accident happened, many officers remained on scene from both the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The accident involved a power pole, so utility crews are out on the scene as well.
Major said no charges have been filed in the case at this time, no one is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
The coroner says Lomax's cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
