SEBRING FL July 18 2013 - A Bowling Green man was arrested Tuesday by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office on a warrant after being accused of stealing shoes from the Lakeshore Mall and then trying to run over a security guard while fleeing, according to a report released Wednesday. Steve Ellis Hodges, 20, 405 Orange St., Bowling Green, was arrested on a warrant and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, petit theft and resisting a merchant. The arrest came after a Bealls loss prevention officer reported on March 7 that he saw a man later identified as Hodges remove a pair of Dockers brand boat shoes from the shelf, place them on his feet and then leave without paying, the report said. The officer tried to detain the suspect in the mall's food court, but the suspect went out the door and got into a vehicle, the report said. When the guard tried to get the license plate number, the suspect reversed the car and headed toward the guard, and the result was the car's passenger side mirror hit the guard's left arm, the report said.
