Lieutenant Joe Gonzalez was providing uniformed security when a truck leaving the building turned pinning him against a wall.
Lieutenant Gonzalez was taken to Methodist Hospital with two collapsed lungs, broken ribs, and some minor injuries.
He's in serious but stable condition.
Des Moines police are still investigating the accident.
