SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Jan 11 2013— A Springfield Police officer is facing a number of charges after she was arrested last night in Connecticut by State Police for a fight she was involved in.
In a release sent to ABC40 News tonight, Connecticut State Police say they received a disturbance in Somers, CT at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Upon their arrival, police discovered that a woman by the name of Nataliya Smirnova had made an unexpected visit to the Mendez residence and was causing a disturbance and was throwing objects in the driveway.
That’s when police say 32-year-old, Eleni Mendez exited the garage with a shovel where a struggle ensued in the driveway between the two women.
Police allege that Eleni along with family member, Pedro Mendez, caused extensive damage including smashed windows and numerous dents to Smirnova’s Mercedes Benz that was parked in the driveway. Police say they used the shovel.
All three were arrested at the scene. Despite the disturbance, police say no one was transported to the hospital.
While authorities say Smirnova is an acquaintance of the Mendez family, they did not elaborate further.
Eleni Mendez is facing multiple charges including Criminal Mischief, Breach of Peace, Threatening, and Reckless Endangerment. She was released shortly after her arrest on $9,000 bond.
Police say she is scheduled to appear in court in Rockville on January 23.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Clapprood did confirm that Eleni Mendez is an officer with the department.
