Long Beach CA May 28 2013 This past Saturday, a subject was pronounced deceased while in the custody of the Long Beach Police Department after two security guards for a private industrial property noticed the subject entering employees' vehicles.
A private security company contacted police at 6:45PM regarding an unfolding incident in the 6200 block of Paramount Avenue. Upon LBPD arrival, officers discovered that two security guards had detained the subject after he attempted to take one of the security guard's vehicle and, when that failed, attempted to scale a nearby fence.
After formally arresting the subject and moving him into an open space, the subject went into medical distress. Officers attempted life-saving measures and paramedics then arrived and transported the subject to a local hospital; however, he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
The subject has not been identified and, according to police, the only information available is that he appears to be in his 20s or 30s.
Per usual with in-custody deaths, homicide detectives are conducting an investigation while the Los Angeles County Coroner's office will also conduct an independent investigation.
This is the second in-custody death so far this year. The first being a woman who was arrested for possession of narcotics and died after going into medical distress while in a holding cell.
