PUEBLO, COLO. April 7 2013-- Pueblo police arrested a man accused of shoplifting and hurting two officers on Monday.
Officers were first called to the Safeway on the city’s Southside about a theft in progress.
A security officer told police he was watching a man in his early 20s stealing items. Police said they saw the man, identified as 21-year-old Joseph Trujillo, taking products off the shelves and then hiding them in his jacket.
When Trujillo was confronted and told he was under arrest, police said he became combative and refused to give them his hands to be placed in cuffs.
According to police, a Taser had to be used. A knife was recovered from Trujillo, police said.
Two officers and Trujillo were transported to the hospital with injuries. One of the officers, police said, received several abrasions, cuts and a fracture.
Trujillo was booked into the Pueblo County Jail on Theft, Resisting Arrest and Second Degree Assault on a Peace Officer. He also had an active arrest warrant for Failure to Appear.
