Horry County Police Detectives on Wednesday identified and detained a sexual assault suspect they say was involved in an sexual assault that happened very early Saturday morning.
The incident happened March 16 around 4:30 a.m. just minutes before officers with the Horry County Police Department's North Precinct responded to the Scotchman on Lake Arrowhead Road in reference to a sexual assault.
Police say the incident began when a man came into the store and got a beverage before using the restroom. He came out of the bathroom and said there was an issue with the plumbing, police said.
The clerk followed him the bathroom to check out the issue, at which point the suspect pushed the clerk into the bathroom, police said. The suspect then pulled out a stun gun and forced the clerk to perform sexual acts on him, police said.
When the act was completed, the suspect fled the scene after taking money from the register.
The criminal act was interrupted on two separate occasions with customers entering the store. The entire incident occurred between 4:30 and 5:15 am.
Earlier on Wednesday, police asked the public for help. By 6 pm on Wednesday, police had been given the suspect's identity and made an arrest, they said. Police planned to release info about the suspect on Thursday morning.
