STAMFORD CT Dec 26 2012 Three men were arrested Sunday in connection with attempting to steal more than $2,000 in merchandise from a Stamford Town Center store.
Officers were dispatched to the Lord & Taylor department store around 4:30 p.m. on a complaint of two shoplifters being held in the store’s custody.
Store security officers also detained store employee, Omar Rodriguez, 19, who is believed to have facilitated the thefts.
Police say Rodriguez was working at the cash register when he allowed a friend, Christopher Franco, 19, to purchase a sweater, valued at $195, for $20.74.
Rodriguez then removed security sensors from additional merchandise and placed the items in shopping bags for Franco to take without paying. The amount of the items Franco attempted to shoplift was valued at $767.75, police said.
Shortly after, Rodriguez allowed his brother, 18 year-old Jonathan Rodriguez-Castan, to purchase a pair of boots for $20.74, which were valued at $155, police said.
Rodriguez also removed security sensors from additional items, valued at $1265.27, and placed the items in shopping bags for his brother.
Store security officers turned the three suspects over to police custody. Each suspect was charged with conspiracy to commit crime, attempt to commit crime and fourth-degree larceny.
It is unclear when the three men are scheduled to appear in court.
