HOUSTON TX Dec 25 2012 —- An officer with the Bellaire Police Department was fatally shot during an altercation with a suspect near a southwest Houston business, police said Monday morning.
The Houston Chronicle reported the officer's death.
The Bellaire Police Department confirmed the shooting took place, but details as to how the officer and the suspect ended up in the City of Houston were not immediately known. At least two others, including the suspect, may have been shot as well. One death was reported at business, which is an auto paint and body shop.
The wounded officer was sent to Ben Taub Hospital.
Views from Air 11 showed at least a dozen bullet casing markers on the ground.
Witnesses told KHOU 11 News the shooting was preceeded by a car chase. Officers, traveling at a high rate of speed, were said to be trying to pull over a Honda.

The shooting occurred just before 9 a.m. in the 5600 block of Bellaire Boulevard.
