CAMDEN, SC Feb 24 2013
Kershaw County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery at the K-Mart in Camden earlier this month.
This week, Sheriff Jim Matthews said his department was looking for 50-year-old Gregory Andrew Cason as a person of interest in the case.  Cason was arrested Friday.
Deputies say on February 4th, Cason entered the West DeKalb Street store with a knife just before closing time and hid in a stock room.  As employees entered the room to count the day's receipts, investigators say Cason demanded the money. During a struggle with employees, Cason was locked out of the room, so he ran off with the cash.
As investigators tried to review the store's surveillance video, they noticed the system was disabled just before the robbery in a manner that only someone familiar with the system could have done. So investigators started looking into current and former employees, which led them to Cason, who was an assistant manager at the store until he resigned in May of 2012.
Richland County Sheriff's deputies arrested Cason at about 1:30 a.m. Friday after they were called to a suspicious vehicle behind a gas station on Two Notch Road.  Deputies say they found Cason sleeping in his car with an open container of alcohol. He was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on alcohol and loitering charges.
When investigators from Kershaw County learned Cason was in custody, they made arrangements to pick him up.
