Albemarle County VA Feb 6 2013 The former Keswick scoutmaster accused of having sex with a boy is scheduled to plead guilty to the crime in Albemarle County Circuit Court, according to court records.

A county grand jury Monday indicted David Brian Watkins, 49, on one charge of forcibly sodomizing a child younger than 13, court records state.
In late November, authorities arrested Watkins on charges he had anal and oral sex with a boy who'd been a member of Keswick Troop 1028, which Watkins led from 2002 to 2008. The incident took place in 2005, authorities said.
The alleged victim is now an adult, authorities said. The Daily Progress does not identify the victims of sexual assault.
The Boy Scouts of America severed ties with Watkins in June after Charlottesville police investigated a report of inappropriate sexual activity. No charges were filed. Charlottesville police have acknowledged investigating Watkins but declined to comment further.
Watkins' ex-wife said she saw him shower and sleep naked with a boy numerous times, according to the couple's 2006 divorce records. She testified that she did not contact police. The divorce was finalized in 2005.
A forensic psychologist examined Watkins, but determined he posed no threat, according to a transcript of divorce proceedings.
Watkins has been held without bond at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail since his arrest. His defense attorney, Samantha Freed, dropped a request for his release on bond in December.
Watkins faces up to life in prison. His trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. April 2.
His case is among the most recent of thousands involving allegations Scout leaders assaulted boys under their charge. The organization formed a program to prevent abuse in the 1980s, but as recently as last year faced charges that leaders covered up the problem, a pattern unveiled in thousands of pages of previously confidential Scout records released last fall.
Now, the Scouts are considering lifting their long-standing national ban on gay membership, which some critics assert is the product of wrongly linking pedophilia with homosexuality.
