LOGAN UT Jan 25 2013 — A man who was Tasered last week by both Logan police and later security at Logan Regional Hospital died of cardiac arrest, police said Wednesday. On Jan. 17, Logan police responded to reports of a man screaming and acting strangely at roughly 7:30 p.m.When they arrived a the 49-year-old's residence, police found that the man was "yelling at Satan and would not calm down or comply with officers' reasoning or orders," according to a press release. The man later reached inside a doorway and claimed that he was getting a gun. Police said he refused to show his hands. Officers then used a Taser on the man. He was taken safely into custody and transported via ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital. Police said he eventually became calm enough to be interviewed and was cited for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and then left in the care of hospital staff. After about three hours, police were called back to the hospital after security reported fighting with a combative patient. Before police arrived, hospital security deployed a Taser in order to subdue the man. By the time police arrived, he was in full cardiac arrest, the release said. Life saving measures were taken but were unsuccessful, and the man died. Police would not say if anyone actually saw a gun during the initial incident, citing the ongoing investigation related to the incident. The victim's name has not been released.
