The woman said someone rang the side doorbell at her home in the 200 block of Mandarin Street on Saturday (Aug. 3) a little after 1 p.m., according to Col. John Fortunato. As she approached the door, she said she could see a man dressed in what she immediately recognized as a "mailman" type uniform. The man told her he was delivering a package, Fortunato said.
When the woman opened the door, the man forced his way inside and made her lie on the floor. He covered her face, then tied her up. A second man showed up, and together they demanded jewelry and money, police said. The woman said she could hear them rummaging through her purse and her house.
The woman told deputies she thinks she was bound for about 20 minutes. After the men fled, she was able to free her arms and call police. It is unknown yet if anything was taken during the attack, Fortunato said.
The woman told deputies she found it odd that the man who forced his way into her home was respectful and polite, calling her "ma'am" throughout the robbery.
He is described as 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall with a medium, muscular build. He was wearing a postal-type uniform and gray knit gloves, police said.
The second man is about the same age, but the woman could not provide a physical description.
