Hampton VA Aug 1 2013 An officer at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail has been charged with the sexual battery of a female inmate.Police on Tuesday arrested Randall Hatfield on charges of abduction, aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery and object penetration, a city news release said.
Hatfield, 53, lives in the 200 block of Beechwood Drive, according to court records. A note in the court file said he is being held at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail.
The inmate told authorities that an officer sexually assaulted her in the jail July 23.
According to court documents, the woman told police she was accosted while cleaning a training room and again later that day when she was cleaning a bathroom.
Court records said the inmate identified Hatfield in a photo lineup, and during a police interview “he admitted to kissing the victim and fondling” her.
