
- CHARLOTTE, N.C. Jan 16 2013(AP) -- Two former Cherryville employees face federal charges of embezzling more than $500,000 from the city.
U.S. Attorney Anne M. Tompkins said in a news release that former finance director Bonny Verley Alexander is accused of embezzling more than $435,000 and former utility supervisor Jennifer Neal Hoyle is accused of embezzling more than $92,000.
Prosecutors filed a criminal bill of information Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Charlotte. They say the 58-year-old Alexander and the 34-year-old Hoyle have agreed to plead guilty to charges stemming from the join federal and state investigation.
Alexander has agreed to plead guilty to five counts of program embezzlement and Hoyle to three counts of program fraud. They each face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.
