A customer at a Union City Waffle House turned the tables on an armed robber trying to hold up the restaurant. The customer was an off-duty security officer who was grabbing a bite with an off-duty Atlanta police officer at the time.According to the Union City Police Department, police officers were called to the Waffle House located in the 4300 block of Jonesboro Road just before 2 a.m. Monday. They were responding to a report of a robbery and person shot.
Officers were told that a black male walked into the Waffle House with a gun in hand and demanded money. At some point, the off-duty security officer -- whose name has not been released -- intervened by shooting the robbery suspect.
The suspect was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated. There were no details regarding the nature or severity of the suspect's injury, or the suspect's identity.
The security officer is not expected to be charged.
