PHOENIX AZ July 28 2013— The head of a bogus security company has pleaded guilty in a scheme that defrauded Arizona and a business landlord out of nearly $750,000.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 26-year-old Jacques Davis pleaded guilty to felony counts of theft and illegal control of an enterprise. His sentencing is set for Aug. 21.
Davis faces a 2 ½-year prison term and will be required to pay $250,000 restitution to the state and about $494,000 to a Scottsdale landlord.
Davis obtained a $250,000 grant in September 2011 from the Arizona Governor's Office of Economic Recovery to relocate his AT Security Service company to Scottsdale from Irvine, Calif.
But authorities found there wasn't an AT Security office in California and Davis created phony employee files to mislead the state.
