A 19-year-old Laurel man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a security guard July 19 at Marinas Bar in Blades.
According to the Delaware State Police, officers were summoned to the N. Market Street bar around 1:10 a.m. for a reported shooting. Police said witnesses informed them a fight occurred in the parking lot and a 34-year-old security guard employed by Marinas was shot in the torso by Donregus Holland, who then fled the scene with several other suspects in a black PT Cruiser heading southbound on U.S. Route 13 towards Laurel. The victim has been driven to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. A general bulletin was put out on the PT Cruiser, which was subsequently stopped by the Laurel Police Department. Police said several suspects, including Holland, were taken into custody without incident. Police said upon searching the vehicle, they located a .22 caliber revolver under the passenger’s side seat.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident and more arrests could be forthcoming. The victim has been transferred to another area hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Holland was arrested on charges of first degree attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $150,000 cash bond.
