A Muscoy security officer shot and killed a man late Sunday night, July 21, when he said he was attacked by several men during an attempted robbery.
The security officer, whose name was not released, was at a business about 11:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of West Highland Avenue in unincorporated San Bernardino, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s statement.
The security guard said he was attacked by several armed men. During the confrontation the security officer said that he feared for his life and fired a handgun at one of his attackers, sheriff’s officials said.
Paramedics and sheriff’s deputies found Esteban Fierro, 23, suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries shortly after midnight, according to the coroner’s office.
The security officer has not been arrested and sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the case as possible self -defense to determine if it was a justifiable homicide.
