Authorities said the incident started as an armed robbery at the Kangaroo Express located at 1137 N. Bright Leaf Blvd in Smithfield just after midnight.
Police said the suspect left the scene on foot.
Officers then responded to another armed robbery in the parking lot of American Pride Car Wash, which is also located on N. Bright Leaf Blvd., just a short distance from the Kangaroo Express.
The victim at the American Pride had his white Jeep Cherokee stolen by the suspect.
The suspect then led police on a chase into Wilson County, damaging two Selma police cars while in pursuit. Sources said the suspect rammed a deputy's cruiser on Highway 42 in Wilson County, which ended the chase.
ABC11 sources said the suspect turned off his headlights and allegedly reached for something under his seat. Deputies then fired at the suspect, killing him.
The suspects identity has not been released at this time.
