A former police lieutenant subcontracted to provide security at a U.S. Navy facility in the Bahamas is accused of stealing his former boss' car and then crashing it into a concrete median while intoxicated.
Edward Michael Alvin, 34, of Palm Springs, allegedly broke into a 2006 Honda Element owned by Carl Hollenbeck on Monday at noon while it was parked at Palm Beach International Airport, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Hollenbeck, of West Melbourne, is chief of security/police services at the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center on Andros Island in the Bahamas, according to the report.
Hollenbeck's wife, Michael Simon, said Tuesday she and her husband were both surprised and angered by the incident.
Alvin formerly worked with Hollenbeck, but his contract ended a year and a half ago, the arrest report said.
He was released Tuesday afternoon from the Palm Beach County Jail on a $3,000 bond, according to the Sheriff's Office online booking blotter.
