LOUISVILLE. Ky. July 17 2013Louisville Metro police were called to Iroquois High School around 3 a.m. Saturday after a report of a break-in in progress.
When officers arrived, a security officer told them a person was still inside the school.
Police said an officer saw Michael Spencer running from the building and tried to stop him, but he kept running.
The officer finally caught up to Spencer near a garage on Haskins Avenue and forced him to the ground.
Even after the officer had him on the ground, Spencer refused to put his hands behind his back and tried to resist arrest, according to the arrest report.
Officers had to use open palm strikes to the shoulder blade to force him to put his hands behind his back, the report stated.
Spencer also suffered a scratch on his head during the scuffle.
He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for evaluation, according to the report.
Police said they recovered $3,000 worth of stolen items.
Spencer is charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree fleeing or evading police, and resisting arrest.
