A woman was taken into custody under the Baker Act early Sunday after she crashed her car into the Clearwater Hooters restaurant in a suicide attempt, police said.
According to police, the 40-year-old woman had been drinking at the nearby Razzle's Lounge and had made statements to other patrons about wanting to end her life.
She got into her car about 3:21 a.m., accelerated out of the parking lot and ran into the west side of the Hooters at 2800 Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, police said.
She suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital before being taken into custody.
Hooters was closed at the time. The crash damaged a fence and a staircase and put a hole in the wall on the west side of the building, which is part of the chain's original restaurant.
