y police officer was killed in a car crash in Jackson early Sunday.
Cristopher Washington, 27, was driving a Toyota Camry when he lost control of the car on Interstate 55 near the Savannah exit about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The car veered off of the road and slammed into a metal light pole, police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. It was unclear if alcohol was a factor in the incident, police said.
Washington was a Hazlehurst police officer.
The incident was under investigation.
