Wichita KS July 10 2013 Two Wichita teens were arrested early this morning after attempting a 'citizen's arrest' on a newspaper delivery driver.
It happened on Monday just before 2:30 a.m., near 33rd and Fern in south Wichita.
Police said a 19-year-old and 16-year-old, armed with a metal pipe and a BB gun, stopped a car driving through the neighborhood. They stood in front of the car and told the driver that they were making a citizen's arrest, and would hurt him if he tried to get away.
One of the teens then called 911. When officers arrived, the teens told them that the man in the car was stalking a 35-year-old woman who lived in the neighborhood.
"[Police] were able to determine that in fact he was a newspaper delivery person and was not in any way shape or form stalking the 35-year-old female," said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police.
The 16-year-old's mother talked to KAKE News and said the newspaper told her there wasn't a delivery route in her neighborhood.
"It makes me mad because my son and that 19-year-old would not be in jail right now if they would've told me that he does a route in that neighborhood," said the mother.
Officers identified the man in question as a 53-year-old newspaper delivery driver, and let him go. They took the other two teenaged males into custody for aggravated assault.
