Chicago IL July 9 2013 A security guard working at Ribfest died of a heart attack over the weekend, officials confirmed.
The guard was transported from Knoch Park to nearby Edward Hospital about 7 p.m. July 6, according to Deputy Fire Chief Rick Sander.
DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen said the man did not survive. He identified the guard as Carl Jones, 63, of the 9500 block of South Avenue, Chicago, and said the cause of death was determined to be a heart attack.
Julie Lichter, Ribfest marketing chairwoman, said the Exchange Club of Naperville, which organizes the annual event is "saddened by the loss."
The guard worked for S3: Safety Service Systems, Inc., and was just approaching his one-year anniversary with the company, according to Mary Beth Gerlach, vice president of business management.
Gerlach described him as "very dedicated and personable."
"He was a good person and an excellent employee, a well-liked gentlemen," Gerlach said. "It's been a rough week."
Jones had a history of cardiovascular disease, the coroner said.
