The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in the 7900 block of Tysons Corner Center, Fairfax County police said. A police spokesman said the robbery was being characterized as a smash-and-grab theft, but few other details were available immediately.
It was not clear whether the theft was connected to similar incidents. One of the most recent occurred June 10 at Fair Oaks Mall, also in Fairfax County.
In that incident, also described by police as a smash-and-grab larceny, three men entered a Kay Jewelers store, smashed a glass case and removed an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Customers were in the store, but no injuries were reported.
In March, four men, one with a hammer, smashed a display case at a watch store in the Pentagon City mall in Arlington County and grabbed almost two dozen Rolex watches, valued at more than $600,000, police said. In that incident, the thieves wore masks.
