CLERMONT FL July 4 2013 — A 22-year-old woman was arrested after officers recovered 25 textbooks worth about $3,600 that were stolen from the bookstore at the South Lake campus of Lake-Sumter State College, police said today.
Jahnisha Ingram was charged with grand theft and taken to the Lake County Sheriff's Office south Lake substation, according to police. A 24-year-old woman who told police she acted as a lookout "with no other involvement" was released but could face charges, police said.
About 11:25 a.m. Monday, police responded to the bookstore, at 1250 N. Hancock Road, after receiving reports of two women leaving the store in a red Nissan Sentra with textbooks they hadn't paid for, according to police.
An officer stopped the car, which Ingram was driving, police said. The officer saw plastic-wrapped textbooks sticking out from under the driver's seat. During questioning, Ingram admitted stealing the books from the bookstore, according to police. The textbooks were returned to the bookstore.
Detectives are investigating a similar theft that took place June 20.
