CAPE CORAL, Fla. June 29 2013 - A Cape Coral family coming to Fox 4 news saying they were assaulted by security employees at an Atlantic City casino. They want to know why the casino is not paying their hospital bills after the incident.
Fox 4 has obtained the security footage of the scuffle so you can be the judge of what happened.
A man slammed to the ground, his wife taken away kicking and screaming as casino security drag her away from her own daughter.
"It felt like an attack. There was no protection," said Renee Binns, tackled by security staff.
The family checking into Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic city, early on the morning of Wednesday, August 8, 2012. She told Four in Your Corner's Julian Glover that after several complaints to hotel staff regarding issues with key card access to their room, the hotel's general manager got involved to solve the issue.
On the next night, Binns told Fox 4's Julian Glover the casino manager had enough of the family's complaints and decided to kick them out.
The security footage from the hotel reveals what happened next.
"Boom! It happened as unexpected as anything," said Binns.
The security footage shows her husband surrounded by five security guards and wrestled to the ground. She says, after a conversation escalated to an argument.
"It looks one tenth of what we physically experienced," said Binns, reliving the tension in the room that night.
Concerned for her husband's health, she says she begged the men to stop.
"He's got a pacemaker, he's got a pacemaker," said Binns, "It can only end badly."
Binns said her husband was then escorted to a holding room and she went with her daughter back to the hotel room to gather their luggage.
"That's when I became aware of their presence," said Binns.
The security footage shows hotel guards running up to Binns, grabbing her from behind as several more guards tackle her daughter who was a minor at the time.
"They dragged me across the floor and four grown men take down my 17-year-old daughter," Binns said.
Fox 4 contacted the hotel chain several times by phone and email to get their side of the story and to find out if they would be willing to offer the Binns family any compensation for their troubles. Fox 4 has yet to receive a response.
The Binns family showed Four in Your Corner's Julian Glover several hospital bills for injuries sustained from the incident. Injuries ranged from a broken nose to a broken elbow; those bills totaling thousands of dollars.
The family is now worried about what legal action can be taken against a casino this powerful.
"Quite frankly, the casino is their bread and butter," said Binns.
