Monroe WA June 29 2013 A former Monroe police officer and school resource officer is accused of using his position to pressure a teenage girl into a sexual relationship. Investigators said there may be other victims.The Washington State Patrol said Wednesday that Carlos Martinez, 58, had a ten year relationship with the girl starting when she was 14 years old. Martinez is now charged in Snohomish County with child molestation, sexual exploitation and voyeurism.
WSP said Martinez was a sergeant with Monroe police until 2009. He was also a DARE school resource officer, although he knew the alleged victim before his employment at the school. Investigators believe Martinez used his position of authority “to isolate and manipulate the young girl into the relationship.”
Martinez is also suspected of photographing the girl when she used the bathroom and while involved in sexually explicit conduct.
Martinez was arrested by an FBI task force in Texas, where he had allegedly moved with the victim.
WSP said its detectives examined computer drives, VHS tapes and conducted interviews with witnesses and possible victims.
