DALLAS TX June 28 2013 –– A security guard was shot and wounded at an Oak Cliff events center around midnight Friday, the second shooting near that complex this week.
Dallas police were called to the 700 block of South Walton to the Fiesta Events Center after reports of a shooting. Club owners said the gunshots sent the crowd of 300 to 400 people scrambling for cover. Someone opened fire in a banquet room and another person returned fire, the club's management said in a statement.
The shooting escalated into the parking lot. Below is a statement from management:
"On 6-27-13, there was an incident located at the Fiesta Event Center - 704 S. Walton Walker. The event transpired in one of the banquet rooms during a private party. The private party had provided their own security staff and police. Club Rio is not affiliated with the private function that was being held and no alcohol was being served through the night. Club Rio was also closed through the entire night. As far as Club Rio and Fiesta Event Center know, no one suffers from life threatening injuries."
Paramedics took the security guard to the hospital, but did not release his condition. Dezz Luzgood, a witness, said it appeared the guard was shot in the rear. Luzgood said bullets started flying and he ducked down.
The shooter has not been arrested and what sparked the violence remains unclear. The victim has not been named.
Earlier this week, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in a parking lot next to Club Rio.
Detectives said it started with when the man got into an argument with a teenager at the club and that carried over next door.
Police arrested 17-year-old Raul Zuniga in connection with the murder. Zuniga is currently jailed on a charge of capital murder.
