Chandler Jacob Weems, 14, died one day after riding his bike into the path of a Henry County police cruiser that was responding to a 9-1-1 call.
Henry County Police issued a statement saying, " On behalf of the Henry County Police Department and Police Chief Nichols, we express our sadness and sympathy to the family for their loss."
According to Georgia State Patrol spokesman, Gordy Wright, the accident happened on North Ola Road around 2 p.m. Saturday. Wright says, the patrol car, driven by Officer Denise Allyson Romero, 35, was traveling westbound when Weems exited a driveway and entered her path.
Investigators on the scene said Romero did everything in her power to avoid hitting Weems, but the collision was unavoidable.
Officer Romero is on leave while the GSP continues it's investigation.
