BELLEVILLE, Ill. April 20 2013 (AP) — Sentencing will be next month for a man newly convicted in the shooting death of a security guard during an attempted 2011 robbery in East St. Louis.
Jurors in St. Clair County found 20-year-old Stanley Chairs III guilty of first-degree murder. He faces up to 60 years in prison when sentenced May 30.
Authorities say 22-year-old Joshua Miller was working as a security guard at a redevelopment complex in April 2011 when he was killed.
Investigators say Chairs tried to rob Miller before Miller was shot in the head. His body was found in a vehicle.
Miller was a father of two, trying to save money to buy his family a house.
