LUBBOCK, TX April 8 2013 A shooting in central Lubbock sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries on Saturday.
Police say Felix Aaron Tijerina, 26, was shot just before 2 a.m. Saturday at C C's Bar & Grill on Avenue Q and 50th Street.
An officer was called to the Koko Inn for an unrelated incident and heard gunshots coming from C C's Bar & Grill, just north of where she was.
Upon arrival, the officer noticed a man laying on the ground. After questioning witnesses, police determined that the suspect and the victim got into an altercation at the bar and the bouncer kicked them out. Witnesses told police that the two knew each other.
Tijerina was rushed to University Medical Center where he remains in serious condition. Eric Finley, spokesman for UMC, says Tijerina's injuries are not life threatening.
Trey McCarty, who was working at Koko Inn at the time of the incident, said there were four or five gunshots.
"I went outside to smoke a cigarette and I noticed a cop pull by me to the front. She went around to the bar side. I went over to see what it was about and saw her talking to the bouncer at the Koko Club. All of a sudden I heard like four or five gun shots and I saw the bouncer point to the direction of C C's," McCarty said.
McCarty says the gun shots did not surprise him because there is always something going on at that bar.
"I guess I wasn't too scared because I figured it's coming from that area. Something's always happening there," McCarty said.
"The thought came into my mind, like if they were running, I would figure they would run back towards the hotel instead of running across 50th. The hotel might be the first place they duck into," he said.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene. As of Saturday night, the suspect has not been located and the incident is still under investigation.
