CUMBERLAND, R.I. April 4 2013 (AP) — A husband and wife killed in a murder-suicide on Easter Sunday were both ailing and were described by family and friends as a proud, loving couple married more than 40 years, Cumberland Police Chief John Desmarais said on Tuesday.
Police believe Roland Bouvier, 73, shot his wife, Maria, 70, twice in the torso with his .32-caliber handgun, then shot himself once in the head shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday after they had Easter dinner. Their daughter and three grandchildren were at home with them at the time and called police.
Desmarais would not be specific about their health issues, but said they did not have a high quality of life.
‘‘There is some indication that they both wanted it. They had been married for so long, she was very sick,’’ he said.
There was no indication they fought before the shooting, police said
