SCARSDALE, N.Y. April 2 2013 – A Queens teen has been charged with stealing $5,613.25 from the Scarsdale Board of Education by forging checks at four Chase Bank branches, police said.
Nashawn Wallace, 19, was charged third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and third-degree possession of a forged instrument, a misdemeanor in her arraignment March 13 in Scarsdale village court.
On Jan. 29, she cashed four checks bearing the name, account and routing numbers of the school district’s Board of Education at four Chase Bank branches in Queens, police said. She forged employee signatures on each check, which were made payable to the defendant. Her full name and mailing address were on the checks.
Wallace admitted Feb. 28 at Scarsdale Police headquarters to the crime, police said. She was released on her own recognizance and is due back in village court March 27 at 9:30 a.m.
