Alexander City AL March 22 2013 The investigation of Michael Ford for alleged sexual abuse crimes has yielded a second arrest, as a grand jury recently indicted another Alexander City Police officer for misdemeanor conspiracy charges.

Lt. Randy Walters, 52, was charged with conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence, a Class A misdemeanor, following the March 6 grand jury indictment.

Walters was arrested without incident and released on a $2,500 bond the same day.

Walters, who works as an administrative lieutenant for ACPD, will continue to serve in his position as the investigation continues, according to Chief Charles Rafford.

“We are cooperating with the ongoing investigation involving Michael Ford, as this case stems out of that investigation,” Rafford said. “As a result of what we had learned from this investigation so far, we have opened and are conducting our own internal investigation.”

Rafford said that under the city’s personnel policy, being charged with a misdemeanor is not automatic grounds for dismissal.

“At this point, we have not determined the exact nature and extent of what transpired,” Rafford said. “If our investigation finds he has broken the law or violated any of our policies or procedures, he will be disciplined according to the manual, which ranges from counseling to termination of employment.”
