ATLANTA GA March 16 2013 (AP) - The Atlanta Police Department has added 26 new officers.
The swearing-in ceremony on Thursday marked the end of 12 weeks of rigorous training at the Atlanta Police Academy. The training includes classroom courses in constitutional law, local and state laws, Atlanta Police Department policy and procedure, hands-on defensive tactics, arrest techniques and daily physical fitness.
The department says it has adopted a community-oriented philosophy and relies heavily upon community input and collaborative problem-solving strategies.
The Atlanta Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with an authorized strength of more than 2,000 sworn officers.
