A Seaside elementary school teacher was arrested Wednesday on child pornography charges.
Nathan Forstell, a physical education teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary School, was arrested by San Jose Police Department Internet Crime Against Children Task Force detectives at 11:30 a.m.
On Thursday, Forstell's car was still parked at the school because he was there when detectives detained him. Martin Luther King Elementary School instructs students kindergarten through fifth grade, and is part of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
Forstell, 44, began working at the Seaside school in August. He was previously employed by the Alum Rock Union School District as a substitute teacher from 2008-2011, and worked at several schools.
A search warrant was served on Forstell's home on the 200 block of La Pala Drive in east San Jose and detectives said they found evidence of child pornography.
"Detectives are currently trying to determine the identity of the children from the evidence they collected," San Jose police officer Albert Morales said.

Forstell is accused of possessing child pornography, not manufacturing. He lives with his brother in Seaside during the week, however, the investigation focused on searching Forstell's San Jose home.
Martin Luther King Elementary School administrators said they were shocked about the charges against Forstell. He passed a background check when he was hired last year, and no complaints were filed against him.
MPUSD administrators posted a letter to students' parents on their school's homepage to alert them about the arrest.
