MARIETTA, Ga. March 11 2013 - Family members and colleagues are preparing to say goodbye to a Marietta firefighter who died while responding to a car crash.
According to Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, visitation for 49-year-old Lonnie Lee Nutt, a fire engineer, is scheduled for Monday night, followed by a funeral Tuesday at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta.
Nutt and other firefighters were dispatched Thursday afternoon to the scene of a crash with less than a mile from their fire station. As the firefighters tried to assist an injured person, Nutt fell to the ground. Marietta Fire Marshal Scott Tucker says Nutt appears to have suffered a heart attack.
Nutt began his career in Marietta in 1994 and served as a firefighter, inspector, investigator and firefighter engineer. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
