Washington DC March 10 2013 A D.C. public school science teacher was arrested Friday afternoon on a child pornography charge, D.C. police officials said.
Officers escorted John Solano, 29, from the campus of McKinley Technology High school in the 100 block of T Street NE and arrested him on a charge of production of child pornography, according to police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump and a written statement from police..
Officials said Solano electronically sent explicit photos of himself to male students. Police began investigating Solano after receiving a complaint earlier Friday, Crump said.
D.C. school officials said in a statement that Solano, who joined the school system in August 2007, was placed on administrative leave.
The statement from school chancellor Kaya Henderson and principal David Pinder that they “are deeply unsettled about this incident,” but declined to address specifics of the allegation.
Police ask that any students or people with knowledge of similar incidents with Solano to call investigators at 202-576-6768.
