FORT PAYNE, Alabama March 1 2013 - A DeKalb County man was arrested Tuesday and charged with extortion after police said he demanded money and pills from someone while in the guise of an undercover drug agent, according to a Fort Payne police report.
Chase Anthony Chauvin, 29, of 7018 County Road 44 was charged with impersonating a police officer, first-degree extortion, second-degree theft of property, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in DeKalb County Jail on $150,000 bond, the report stated.
Police said Chauvin approached a subject in the Fort Payne area Monday and identified himself as an undercover drug agent. Chauvin then extorted money and prescription medication from the victim.
Police gave a description of the suspect and his vehicle to other area law enforcement agencies. On Tuesday, the vehicle was located and officers from Fort Payne Police Department and DeKalb County Drug Task Force took Chauvin into custody.
